Magnetic Resonance Findings in the Carpus and Proximal Metacarpal Region of Non-Lame Horses
نویسنده
چکیده
There are a variety of magnetic resonance (MR) appearances of structures in the carpus and proximal metacarpal region in non-lame horses. An in-depth knowledge of MR anatomy and normal variants is essential for accurate interpretation of clinical MR examinations, and it also helps in the understanding of radiographic and ultrasonographic findings. Use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Diagnose Injuries in the Proximal Metacarpus and Metatarsus in Horses
The exact cause of lameness in the proximal metacarpal and metatarsal region in horses can be difficult to determine when traditional diagnostics do not yield a diagnosis. High field-strength magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides clear evaluation of the proximal metacarpus/metatarsus in horses with performance-limiting injuries. The ability to accurately diagnose the source of lameness is i...
متن کاملAnatomical transverse magnetic resonance imaging study of ligaments in palmar surface of metacarpus in Miniature donkey: identification of a new ligament.
BACKGROUND Palmar region of metacarpus in the horses and donkeys is an important region because of its tendons and ligaments which contribute to stay apparatus. This study was done on forelimbs of 6 healthy Miniature donkeys to detect the tendons, ligaments and their accessories on the palmar surface of metacarpus in this animal. MATERIALS AND METHODS Based on that magnetic resonance imaging ...
متن کاملResearch Paper: Anatomy and Ultrasonographic Morphometric Measurements of Palmar Metacarpal Tendons and Ligaments in Pure Persian Arabian Horses
Introduction: The evaluation of musculoskeletal system in horse veterinary medicine is very important because of its effect on equine performance. The current study provided an ultrasonography description of the palmar tendons and ligaments of the metacarpus in pure Persian Arabian horses. Methods: The metacarpal regions of 10 healthy mare pure Persian Arabian horses were prepared for ultrason...
متن کاملSignal changes in standing magnetic resonance imaging of osseous injury at the origin of the suspensory ligament in four Thoroughbred racehorses under tiludronic acid treatment
Problems associated with the proximal metacarpal region, such as an osseous injury associated with tearing of Sharpey's fibers or an avulsion fracture of the origin of the suspensory ligament (OISL), are important causes of lameness in racehorses. In the present study, four Thoroughbred racehorses (age range, 2-4 years) were diagnosed as having forelimb OISL and assessed over time by using stan...
